Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14th, 1980) is an American performer, actor, and dancer. Her early Broadway performances include Wicked Legally Blonde & Hair. In the musical, Hair. Tony Award was given to Ashford for her role as Essie Carmichael from You Can't Take It With You. Annaleigh has worked on projects with award-winning director, actors, and producers for most of her career. Ashford will be next starring alongside Kumail Nanjiani, in Robert Siegel's Hulu exclusive Welcome to Chippendales. It debuts on the 22nd November. Ashford is currently working on the film of Searchlight Pictures' terror thriller Dust with Sarah Paulson. In the form of an Hulu Original, the film is available on Disney DTC's platform. In March of 2023 Ashford will return to Broadway and play alongside Josh Groban in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail as director and Jeffrey Seller as producer will form the team of creators for the production. Ashford's last role was as Paula Jones on Ryan Murphy FX's American Crime Story Impeachment. The show is based on the national scandal which involved Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp. Her two-season stint on the CBS comedy B Positive was her first major part. The show was created by Marco Pennette and Chuck Lorre it also featured legendary actors Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen.No no stranger to Broadway Ashford won the Tony Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her portrayal of Essie as Essie in You Can't Take It with You. The actress has also appeared in Broadway as a character in Sunday in the Park With George Wicked, Legally Blonde in addition to the original role of Lauren in Kinky Boots for which she received a nomination for a Tony Award. Ashford splits her life between Los Angeles & New York. Her birthplace was in Denver and was raised in Denver.
